Obituary for Roy N. Lemke
Edwards- Roy N. Lemke, age 96, of Edwards, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 7:00 PM at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 4, 1920 in West Salem, IL, he was a son to Charles and Hulda (Clodfelter) Lemke. He married Audrey Fritchley and later married Betty (Roloff) Stewart. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2012.
Roy honorably served in the United States Army during WWII in New Guinea and the Philippines Campaign. He was a member of the V.F.W. at large. Roy was a cement finisher for Wiegand Construction and later Walt Koepel Construction. He was a member of Cement Masons Local #18.
Roy loved to go to Florida and fish at Lake Okeechobee. He enjoyed riding his Harley’s earlier in life. Roy cherished the times when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were around and took pride in keeping his property looking nice and in his cement work.
Survivors include two children: Becky (Ray) Kelch of Kickapoo and Kenneth Ray Lemke of West Salem, IL; two stepchildren: Claude Stewart III of Edwards and Marty Smith of Peoria; four grandchildren: Brian Kelch, Aimee (Jared) Brewer, Curtis Kelch, and Joshua Lemke; five great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren; as well as, one sister Mildred (Don) Tarpley of Bloomington, IL.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, infant son Walter, infant grandson Kevin N. Kelch, one grandson Kenneth R. Lemke, Jr., five brothers; Karl Lemke, Harold Lemke, John Lemke, Lee Lemke, infant brother Charles; and one infant sister Imogene; and one step-daughter Bettyann Lanove.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service at 10:00 AM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Father Joseph Dondanville will officiate and burial with full military honors will be held in St. Patrick Cemetery in Edwards.
He always had a “garage cold one” for anyone willing to partake. His hard working hands are now at rest. Rest in peace dad, you will be missed.
Memorials in Roy’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to St. Mary Catholic Church in Kickapoo.
