Obituary for Rose W. Louis

PEORIA-Rose W. Louis, 99, of Peoria, passed away at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was born on March 8, 1910 in Orient, South Dakota to William A. and Julia Stauffer Louis. She married Leo M. Louis on June 3, 1939 in Galesburg, IL. He passed away on June 11, 1963 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by one son, John (Kathy) Louis of Peoria; one grandson, Matthew Louis of Peoria and many nieces and nephews. She grew up in Menominee, MI and came to Peoria in 1928. She graduated from OSF School of Nursing in 1931. She worked at OSF after graduation and then moved to St. Mary’s in Galesburg for five years. She returned to Peoria after her marriage and worked at OSF until 1949. She did private duty nursing until 1969, when she returned to OSF and retired in 1977. Rose was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, St. Thomas Senior Citizens and a former member of the quilting group and helped with parish mailings. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery and gardening. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at St. Thomas Church with Msgr. William Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Thomas Church with recitation of the rosary at 6:45 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the mass at the church. Graveside services will be 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Loretto, IL. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
