Obituary for Rolan "Barry" Johnson

PEORIA-Rolan “Barry” Johnson, 70, of Peoria passed away at 12:15 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at his residence. He was born September 11, 1941 in Peoria to Rolan A. and Mina Leary Johnson. He married Connie J. Sheppard on May 26, 1962 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Mike) O’Brien of Peoria and Joni (Mike) Borghesi of Naperville, IL, six grandchildren, Mary Catherine, Patrick, Joey, Jeff, Meg and Mark; two brothers, Dick (Jaylee) Scott and Fred (Karen) Johnson, both of Peoria; one sister, Pam (Bill) Barr of Peoria and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Dorothy, and one sister, Nancy. Barry was a sheet metal worker, working out of Union Local #1. He later worked for Methodist Medical Center and Caterpillar, Inc. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Spalding Council #427, Sand Trappers Golf League, Caterpillar Golf League, founding member of the Couch Potato Fantasy Football League, and a volunteer for St. Jude Midwest. Barry was a proud father and an adoring and loving grandfather. He spent much time with his wife, children and grandchildren in Panama City Beach, FL. He was passionate about golf and loved his Tuesday night golf league with his friends. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday December 22, 2011 at St. Jude Catholic Church. Rev. Patrick Henehan will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21 at St. Jude Catholic Church, with recitation of the Rosary at 6:45 p.m. Further visitation will be at St. Jude Church one hour prior to the Funeral Mass on Thursday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Church Building Fund or to the American Lung Association.
