Obituary for Robert O'Neill
Peoria- Robert O’Neill, age 91, of Peoria, passed away at 11:18 Am on Friday, November 24, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 6, 1926 in Chicago he was the loving son to Thomas and Bridgett (Firrick) O’Neill. He honorably served in the United States Navy during WWII. On February 3, 1951 he married the love of his life Amy L. Hopkins at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Peoria. Later that year he graduated from Bradley University with his Bachelor of Science degree and went onto work for Caterpiller as a Market Analyst until his retirement in 1983. Robert enjoyed baking bread, woodcarving, and was an avid camper. He loved listening to Jazz music, but his most favorite past time was being with his family and friends drinking a nice cold beer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Amy O’Neill of Peoria; six children: Mark (Kathy) O’Neill of Lake Villa, IL, Chris O’Neill of Peoria, Jeff (Shirley) O’Neill of Canton, Georgia, Diane (Alan) Hogan of Princeville, IL, Brian O’Neill of Chicago, and Laura (Bruce) Peissig of Ellison Bay, Wisc.; seven grandchildren: Andrew (Jennifer) O’Neill of Roswell, GA, Matthew (KellyAnne) O’Neill of Roswell, GA, Ryan (Jane Sterling) Hogan of Peoria, Nick (Courtney) Hogan of Peoria, Domenic O’Neill of Chicago, Emily (Jason) Leist of Baileys Harbor, Wisc. and Amanda (Ryan) Weissgerber of Ephraim, Wisc.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Nora, Ford, Wynnie, Addison, Elliot, Fiona, Jade, Jax, Eloise, Griffin, and Aubry.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter Sarah O’Neill and one son Greg O’Neill.
Cremation rights have been accorded and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
