Obituary for Robert N. Ossenbeck

PEORIA-Robert “Bo” N. Ossenbeck, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Lutheran Hillside Village. He was born on August 17, 1923, in Peoria to Charles C. and Myrtle Nolan Ossenbeck. He married Ava Cleary on July 31, 1948, in Peoria. She survives. Robert is also survived by three sons, Mike (Claire) Ossenbeck of Penngrove, CA, Patrick (Mary) Ossenbeck of Gainesville, FL and Peter Ossenbeck of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Carol Ann (Satish) Boregowda of Albuquerque, NM and Meg Finnegan of Crofton, MD; two grandsons, Michael (Ki Park) Ossenbeck of Gainesville, FL and Brian (Jennifer) Ossenbeck of New York City, NY; two granddaughters, Molly Finnegan of Crofton, MD and Cecilia Ossenbeck of CA and one sister, Ruth Ann McAvoy of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated from Bradley University with a B.S. Degree in 1948. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Robert held various positions at Caterpillar, Inc., where he worked for 37 years, retiring on January 1, 1985 as Finance Manager. During this time he lived in Mountain View, CA from 1955-1960, and Geneva, Switzerland from 1973-1980, when not residing in Peoria, IL. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and volunteered at RSVP, Friendship House and PAWS (pet therapy). He was President of Alpha Pi Fraternity, President of the School Board of American International School and Vice President of American International Club of Geneva, Switzerland. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Lutheran Hillside Village, American Cancer Society or Charity of the Donor’s Choice. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
