Obituary for Robert M. Watson

PEORIA-Robert M. Watson, 77, of Peoria, died at 6:01 a.m., Sunday, January 20, 2008 at his home. He was born on October 3, 1930 in Pekin, IL to Malcom and Isabelle Lohnes Watson. He married Susan J. Nevitt Watson on January 27, 1951. She preceded him in death along with two sons, Robert J. and Brett; and three daughters, Jody, Beth and Barbara Watson. He is survived by three sons, Bruce Watson of Farmington, IL, Brian Watson of Peoria and Brice (LuAnn) Watson of East Peoria; one daughter, Brooke Jones of Peoria; five grandchildren, Brock and Kiley Watson of Bartonville, Brant and Ally Watson of East Peoria, and Brady Jones of Peoria; and two brothers, Dick Watson of Pekin and John Watson of Ocala, FL. He attended Pekin High School where he was a standout 3 sport athlete. He went on to play football and baseball at Bradley University, graduating in 1953. He worked in the insurance business with companies in the Peoria area including Franklin Life, Hartford and Great West. He later worked for and retired from the Central Illinois Carpenters Health & Welfare Trust Fund as the administrator. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities and following local sports. He was a charter member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Peoria Chapter. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with Pastor Stephen Barch officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 30 minutes before the services at the mortuary. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
