Obituary for Robert J. Wesselhoft

PEORIA Robert J. Wesselhoft, 82, of Peoria passed away at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at UnityPoint Health Proctor.
Robert was born on Feb. 19, 1933, in Peoria to the late Walter H. and Lucille L. (Herman) Wesselhoft. He married Jacqueline M. (Hart) Cassidy on July 6, 1974, in Peoria. She survives.
He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Deborah Cassidy of Austell, Ga., and Jennifer (Brad) Garrett of Overland Park, Kans.; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Jacqueline and Kristopher Garrett of Overland Park, Kans.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth.
During his sophomore year of high school, Robert attended the Western Military Academy in Alton, Ill. He later attended Bradley University, graduating in 1955, and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
He was president of the Model Wallpaper Paint Co., retiring in 1989.
Robert was a past board member of the First of America Bank, now National City, for 14 years. He was also formerly on the board of directors of the Creve Coeur Club and the Illinois Valley Yacht Club (IVY Club).
He was a member of Mt. Hawley Country Club and the Country Club of Naples, Fla., and a former active member of the On Ice Boat Sailing Fleet on the Illinois River.
Robert was the winner of the Snipefleet Sailing Club championship at the IVY Club in 1965, 1967 and 1968.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel. Msgr. Gerald Ward will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at Wright Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the chapel. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
