Obituary for Robert J. "Rob" Eckhart

MORTON – Robert J. “Rob” Eckhart, 37, of Morton passed away at 6:06 a.m. on Monday, Jan 7, 2013 peacefully at his home with his family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Rob was born on May 14, 1975, in Peoria, IL to James and Barb (Bannon) Eckhart. He married Danelle A. Pickens on Aug 5, 2006, in Germantown Hills, IL.
His paternal grandparents, Warren J. Eckhart and Anna M. Trefz, and maternal grandparents, Edward and Rosemary Bannon, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Danelle, and two sons, Joseph (age 7), and Noah (age 5) all of Morton; his parents Jim and Barb Eckhart of Germantown Hills, IL; and his four brothers, Scott (Michelle) Eckhart of Cary, NC, Geoff Eckhart of Atlanta, GA, Ryan (Allison) Eckhart of Nuremberg, Germany, and Sean Eckhart of Berlin, Germany. Also surviving are five nephews and a niece, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rob graduated from Peoria Notre Dame High School in 1993 and Illinois State University in 1997. Rob was an engineering technician at Crawford, Murphy, Tilly, Inc. in Peoria.
His smile was contagious and he found a way to touch everyone he met. He had a true passion for life, education, and was grounded in faith and family. He loved music, reading, fishing with his sons, the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. Throughout his battle with cancer, he lived his life courageously in 'today'. His gift to all of us was a deepened understanding of life, death, forgiveness, acceptance, humility, honesty, responsibility, and gratitude.
The family wishes to extend a special "thank you" to all of our family and friends, near and far, who have been there with never-ending support during this difficult time. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 11th at Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton. Father Mark DeSutter will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 10th, also at Blessed Sacrament. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass on Friday. Wright Salmon is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at St. Mary of Lourdes Cemetery in Metamora.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity or the "Children of Robert J. Eckhart" Memorial Fund through CEFCU which will be moved into a trust to support the future education of his sons, Joseph and Noah. Memorial donations can also be submitted electronically at
