Obituary for Robert F. Couri

East Peoria- Robert F. Couri, 83, of East Peoria, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family at 10:41 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011. He was born November 19, 1928 in Peoria to Michael and Kemla Farrah Couri. He married Helen Theresa Joseph on August 31, 1954 in Peoria, she survives. Also surviving are seven daughters; Vickie (James) Treber and Lynne (David) Jacobs, both of East Peoria, Carol (Jeffrey) Reed of Lincoln, Renee Mattern, Kathie (Patrick) Risen, and Lori (Daniel) Densberger, all of Peoria, Lisa (Timothy) Adlington of Brimfield; and one son, Robert (Linda) Couri Jr. of Libertyville. Robert is also survived by twenty three grandchildren; Lindsay Treber, Matthew, Jeremiah and David (Cara) Jacobs, Christopher, Daniel and Cara Reed, Sarah, Jacob and Adam Mattern, Monica (Michael) Ibeck, Kimberly (TJ) Dehn, Jessica and Kristen Risen, Nicole (Ryan) Kenny, Ashley (Mitch) Gilfillan, Megan and Kelsey Densberger, Nathan, Abby and Michael Adlington, Joseph and Augustine Couri; and seven great grandchildren. Others surviving include his sister, Cecilia Maroon, and a brother, Michael (Margaret) Couri Jr., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his five brothers; Sie, Joseph, Thomas, John, and George, and three sisters, Rose Peters, Sadie George and Martha LaHood. He was a Korean Army Veteran. Robert was co-owner of Couri’s Food Town in East Peoria, and later Couri’s Fast License and Title Service. He was a man of few words who will never be forgotten, and had the deepest respect of many. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, a hero to his children, idolized by his grandchildren, and a proud great grandfather. Our lives were enriched by his presence. He will always be remembered as a happy, loving and caring person who will be deeply missed by those who loved him. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, 10 a.m. at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in East Peoria, with Msgr. James Kruse officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the mass on Friday. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to ITOO Society Memorial Fund, St. Monica’s Church, or the charity of donor’s choice.
