Obituary for Robert E. Winn

Robert E. Winn 83, of Peoria passed away at 2:10 a.m. Sunday, November 8, 2009 at his residence. Born November 4, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William E. and Kitty O. Andersen Winn. Robert married Vicki Abraham on August 18, 1984 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Karen Winn-Washington and Mari Winn both of Peoria. Two sons; Craig (Kelly) Winn and Randy (Kathy) Winn both of Peoria. Five grandchildren; Cory Washington, Angela Washington, Randy Hinkle Jr., Kyle Winn and Rob Winn. Five great-grandchildren; Karissa London, Jamea Jackson, Jamel Jackson, Alaysia Dougherty and Rickey Woods III. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and his twin brother, Richard and one sister, Ivey Kathleen Ball. Robert graduated from Bradley University in 1949. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a Golden Glove Boxer. He was an electrician for Komatsu for 43 years until retiring in 1996. He was an active sportsman enjoying softball, bowling, basketball and dartball A member of Knights of Columbus Third Degree Spalding Council #427 and Fourth Degree Spalding Assembly #206 and Order of Alhambra. In his later years he became an avid runner with the Illinois Valley Striders and Starved Rock Runners. He was a faithful Bradley Basketball fan and a season ticket holder since the days of Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where a funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Vincent Church with an Alhambra Service at 7:30 p.m. Further visitation will be 30 minutes before the mass on Wednesday. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to T.A.P.S. or Alzheimer’s Association. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
