Obituary for Robert E Lewis
PEORIA - Robert E. Lewis, psychologist, 75, of Peoria, passed away at 12:26 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 2, 1941, in Peoria, Ill., to Donald P. and Lillian E. (Linner) Lewis. He married Priscilla J. Armstrong on Nov. 25, 1962, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jennifer (Patrick) Finnegan of Rockton, Ill., and Jolie (Peter) Jennetten of Peoria; one son, Jason (Erin) Lewis of Peoria; 13 grandchildren, Jack, Peter, Joseph and Lila Finnegan, Leo, Gus, Hal, and Abe Jennetten and Rob, Ted, Sam, Will and Cate Lewis; and one sister, Shirley Sopher Lewis of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul Lewis; and his granddaughter, Emma Lewis.
Bob was a lifelong Peorian who graduated from Richwoods High School. He went to Bradley University where he received his Masters degree in Psychology. He began his career at Peoria State Hospital on the Alcoholism Treatment Unit. He was instrumental in starting Oakwood Manor Treatment Center as an administrator. In 1978, Bob started his private practice where he specialized in alcoholism treatment. He was also on staff at OSF St. Francis Mental Health Unit and United Cerebral Palsy. He did consultations for PARC, Pekin Hospital, Apostolic Christian Timber Ridge and the Dri-Roads Program. He received the Dr. Walter H. Baer Award in 1988 for Outstanding Service in Mental Health. Bob loved his career and helping others was his life’s work. His last day at work was March 19, 2016.
Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed his many golf trips with friends. He also loved convertibles and could be seen riding with the top down and playing golf any time of the year.
Bob was very proud of his children and grandchildren, always there to help and guide them. He looked forward to birthdays, holidays and taking annual family vacations with them. He was also a member of University United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 1:00 pm Friday, March 25, 2016, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Steve Pichaske will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Further visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
