Obituary for Robert Droege

PEORIA - Robert William Droege, 70, of Peoria passed away at 9:30 a.m. Saturday Aug. 22, 2015, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, very peacefully with his entire family at his bedside, completing his journey to meet God. Bob was born on May 7, 1945, in Springfield to Harry and Eileen (Turner) Droege. He married his loving wife, Jeanne Marie Darche, on Aug. 24, 1968, at St. Philomena Church in Peoria, Ill. She survives. Bob and Jeanne shared 47 wonderful years together, prior to his passing. He is also survived by his children, Janet (Scott) Bundy, Christina (James) Roberts, Jeanne (Bob) Williams, Robert (Andrea) Droege Jr., and Richard (Amy) Droege; and nine grandchildren, Brandon Roberts, Ashley Roberts, Nathan Roberts, Alissa Williams, Kevin Williams, Madelyn Williams, Reed Droege, Owen Droege, and Madisyn Droege. He is also survived by five siblings, Mary Crawford, John Droege, Eileen Lipham, April Adams and Fran Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jan Droege. Bob lived his youth in Metamora where he attended St. Marys Grade School, and in Peoria, where he graduated from Spalding High School. He furthered his academic journey by studying chemical engineering at the University of Illinois and then completed his college education through Caterpillar and Bradley University. He began working at Caterpillar in 1964 as a foreman. Through dedication and hard work, he was promoted to the purchasing department, where he held various positions such as senior buyer, procurement manager, materials and procurement services, and indirect /direct manager of global purchasing, until his retirement in 2006. He was recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Central Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Managers and received the Annual Quality Improvement Chairman Award for his many contributions throughout his career. Bob and his wife, Jeanne, attended St. Vincent de Paul Church. He also volunteered for the Food Share Program. As a natural leader in his professional and personal life, Bob was considered by his family as the Master Delegator. His life was centered around his family, travel and activities such as riding motorcycles, camping, boating and off road activities, and as a member of the Gold Wing Z Club. He will be remembered as a committed and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, and the family would like to thank God for blessing us with his presence in our life. Visitation will be held Tuesday Aug. 25, 2015, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Wright and Salmon Mortuary. Recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate and burial will follow in St. Marys of Lourdes Cemetery in Germantown Hills.
