Obituary for Robert Church Moore

Peoria- Robert Church Moore, 86, a Peoria native, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2007, in Renton, WA, where he had lived for the past twenty years. Robert was born November 15, 1921, in Peoria to Floyd N. and Mary Church Moore. He married Patricia Ann Murrin, also formerly of Peoria, in 1948. They were married for 25 years and had three children. She now lives in Naples, Fla. Surviving are his two daughters, Christine (James) Moore Green of Ashburn, VA., and Paula A. Moore of Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his son, David Robert Moore. Robert attended St. Bernard Catholic Grade School and graduated from Peoria Central High School. He studied at Bradley University for two years until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Transport Command in 1942, where he served honorably during WWII as a pilot flying troops and cargo in Europe, Africa and Asia. In 1946 he went to work as a pilot for Eastern Air Lines, and was soon promoted to captain. He remained with Eastern until he retired 35 years later. He was based in Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami. In 1987, he moved from Atlanta to Renton. Robert was a longtime member of the Air Line Pilots Association. While living in Renton, he served as the vice president of his community’s homeowners’ association. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Renton, and was a member of the Retired Eastern Pilots Association(REPA). His interests were wide and varied, ranging from photography and electronics, to steam engines and model trains. He also loved cats, and gave a home to many strays. A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr. Paul Showalter officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the mass at church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
