Obituary for Robert C. Strassburger

Robert C. Strassburger, 88, of 123 Grand Victorian Place in Washington, formerly of West Peoria, died on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 7:18 a.m. in Washington. Born September 1, 1923 in Peoria to J. Walter and Marie Drach Strassburger, he married Clara Franzgrote on June 26, 1948 in Peoria. Clara survives, along with his daughter: Katherine (Larry) Meier of Tremont, son: Christopher (Marianne) Strassburger of Highlands Ranch, CO, son: Frederick Strassburger of Sheboygan, WI, daughter: Julie (Joe) Peterburs of South Elgin, and daughter: Marianne (David) Lasser of Colfax. Eleven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Eric (Chanin), Kristin(Daniel), Brian, Kimber, Jenna, Christopher, Matthew, Joseph, Kate, and Benjamin also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Evelyn Voss and Lois Kupfert. Robert was a cabinet maker, who was owner of Peoria Cabinet Company in Peoria. He later was Superintendent of Special woodworks at Jumer’s in West Peoria. He was a WWII and Korean Army veteran, and awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, and was former trustee for the parish. He was a life member of German American Society, a life member of American Legion, and a life member of Carpenter’s Local #183. Robert was a member of the Peoria Musicians Union, and played with the Kaiser-Wilhelm Rathskeller Brummers Band and the Harmonie Singers. He was a graduate of Bradley University, and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Robert was a man of great faith, integrity, strength, and humor. His strong work ethic was evident in his craftsmanship as a skilled woodworker and refined musician and soloist. He lived for his family and will be fondly remembered and forever missed. A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, with Fr. Ronald Margherio and Fr. Terry Cassidy officiating.Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m. Further visitation will be half hour prior to the mass on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. Bede Abbey, St. Ann Building Fund, or Charity of Donor’s Choice. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
