Obituary for Robert E. Bushell

Peoria- Robert Emmett Bushell, age 90, of Peoria, IL, passed away at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Proctor Endowment Home.
Born April 14, 1926 in Peoria, a son of J.W. and Louise (Herzog) Bushell. He married Violet M. Sacks on August 30, 1947 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria.
Robert is survived by his wife of 69 years and nine children; Val King (Bill) of West Palm Beach, FL, Michael Bushell (Laurie) of Bartonville, IL, John “Jack” and Pat of Peoria, Kitty Parr of Manito, IL, Joe Bushell (Toni) of Mesa, AZ, Judy Revallo of Harbor Springs, MI, Tom Bushell (Robin) of Gaithersburg, MD, and Mary Slight (Larry) of Libertyville, IL, one brother; Tony Bushell (Sandy), and two sisters; Mary Lou Bushell and Geraldine Owens. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; Richard and John, and one great-granddaughter, Kylie Zike.
He graduated from St. Mark’s Catholic Grade School, Spalding Institute and then went to Bradley University where he graduated with an MBA. Robert joined the Army Air Corps and later in the USAF attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He worked at NYLIC as a CLU in insurance sales until he retired after 50 years.
Robert was a long time member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and the St. Mark’s Mens Club. He was also a member of the Cursillo Community and Timberlake Country Club where he would golf in his rare free time. He was often seen doing backflips off the diving board to entertain the kids.
Robert lived in a historic home on High Street and spent many years renovating properties in the neighborhood. He was known for his quality work and his dedication to excellence. He was generous to many and quick to offer his time and resources whenever he saw others in need. He was known for his kind, compassionate nature, his humility and his love of family and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Wright and Salmon Mortuary with a recitation of the rosary at 5:00 PM. Funeral mass will be Monday, December 5, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, with a half hour prior visitation. Father David Whiteside will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Catholic Church or Greater Peoria Honor Flight, where Bob was privileged to participate in a flight to the World War II Memorial in 2011.
