Obituary for Richard S. Brooke
Peoria-Richard S. Brooke, age 77, passed away 10:56 AM, Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Born June 14, 1939 in Pittsburg, Kansas a son of Vernon and Katherine Miletich Brooke. He married Mary M. Dunham December 29, 1962 in Elmhurst, IL and they have been married 54 years. She survives, along with two sons; Jeff Brooke of Dunlap, IL and Kenneth (Jennifer) Brooke of Peoria, IL, five grandchildren; Kourtni, Kelsey, Ryan, Chase, and Mason and two sisters; Dorothy Meyer of Milwaukee, WI and Diane (George) Wetterow of Peoria, IL.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves. He had a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Bradley University and was a Sales Manager at The Peoria Journal Star for over 35 years.
Richard was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. His bigger than life personality showed in his love for his St. Louis Cardinals and the yearly trip he and Mary took to Florida for spring training. He loved cooking for his family, and often used ingredients from his own backyard garden. His passion and competitiveness was clear while playing golf at Arrowhead Country Club and working out at the Riverplex. He absolutely cherished and spoiled his five grandchildren, who were often a fixture at his house.
Funeral Mass is 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. Jude Catholic Church, with a half hour prior visitation. A Scripture Service will be read at 3:30 PM, Friday, December 16, 2016, with a visitation following, 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM, at the church. Father Patrick Henehan will officiate. Burial will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Catholic School.
