Peoria- Richard M. “Dick” Cain, age 89, of Peoria, passed away at 8:56 PM on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Independence Village with his family by his side. Born February 27, 1934 in Peoria, Dick was a son to Sidney and Josephine (Biggins) Cain. On May 12, 1956 he married Mary “Sue” McLaughlin at St. Mark Catholic Church and together they cherished nearly 66 years. Dick loved making people laugh and was known to light up a room with his contagious smile and humor. His charm and wit served him well throughout his career in sales. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and could regularly be seen singing in the Resurrection Choir and then using his speaking talent as a lector at the same mass! Dick had a sweet tooth and was known to always have a secret stash of jelly beans close by and a freezer full of popsicles to share. Dick was full of compassion, generosity and kindness that shined throughout his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who cherished family and will be deeply missed. Survivors include two children: Anthony “Tony” (Peggy) Cain of Peru, IL and Margaret “Peg” Nocera of La Grange, IL; four grandchildren: Megan, Jaclyn, Cain and Anton; three sisters: Maureen Wetzel of Peoria, Sheila Oakley of Florida and Kathleen Murray of Chicago; one brother Daniel Cain of Peoria; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sue, and one brother Vincent Cain.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time of Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. Father Greg Jozefiak will officiate, and entombment of ashes will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum. Preferred memorials in Dick’s memory may be made to OSF Healthcare The Heller Center for Kids with Cancer.
