Obituary for Richard Lee Durr
Peoria- Richard Lee Durr, age 70, passed away 12:30 AM, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Born May 19, 1946 in Peoria, a son of Robert and Lillian (Facer) Durr. Richard married Nancy Wilkins April 16, 1966 in Peoria, IL. She survives. Also surviving Richard, are their two children; Tracy Fox and Richard Allen (Pam) Durr, both of Peoria, four grandchildren; Heather Kirchgessner, Sophie Durr, Byron Durr, and Anya Durr, one great-granddaughter; Kailynn Hightower, all of Peoria, and one brother; Robert (Kathy) Durr of Henderson, NV.
Richard enlisted in and proudly served in the United States Navy as an E5 Engineman in Vietnam. Coming back to Peoria, Richard worked at Caterpillar, as a material controlman, for 43 years, until his retirement in 2009. He was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, in Peoria Heights, the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and The Christ King Prayer Group. He was involved in Cursillo, (BSF) Bible Study Fellowship, and Watch, and served as an altar boy and Eucharistic Minister at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Richard was a loving father, husband and grandfather, who will be truly missed. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was happiest outdoors, where he could be found fishing or creating art out of wood.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Msgr. Jason Gray officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, Friday, January 20, 2017 at the church, with a prayer service at 7:00PM. Further visitation is half hour prior to Mass on Saturday. Cremation Rites have been accorded and private inurnment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.
