Obituary for Richard A. Orth
Peoria- Richard “Dick” A. Orth, age 81, of Peoria, died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, October 2, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Born October 24, 1934 in Peoria, he was a son to Joseph and Caroline (Behrens) Orth. He married his best friend, Johanna McElwee, on January 11, 1964. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2014. Dick graduated in 1953 from Spalding Institute. He worked at Keystone Steel and Wire for 35 years as an electrician until his retirement.
Dick was a dedicated parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and an active member of the German American Society, where he participated in the choir and as a dancer. He was an avid sportsman, having played basketball, football and baseball in his early years and, more recently, as a golfer and active member of River City Athletic Club. He enjoyed meeting up with his bridge club and loved travelling, especially when visiting his daughters and grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, Meagan “Peggy” Ahmad of Austin, TX, Lucinda “Cindy” Orth of San Francisco, CA, and Karrie (Nolan) O’Connor of London, UK; three grandchildren, Bijan Ahmad and Quinn and Eden O’Connor; as well as, his twin sister Rosemary Rapp of Princeville, IL.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife Johanna, one sister Kathleen and one brother Joseph.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Fr. Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to mass. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria at a later date.
