Obituary for Raymond N. Hackett

Lacon- Raymond N. Hackett, 99, of St. Joseph Nursing Home in Lacon, died at 11:55 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the nursing home. Born August 21, 1906 in St. Louis, MO., to Edward and Mary Coppins Hackett, he married Beatrice E. Lyle on June 20, 1929 in Peoria, she died on December 9, 1987 in Peoria. Two sisters and four brothers also preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons: James (Josephine) Hackett and Martin (Fred Brown) Hackett, both of Peoria. His brother-in-law George (Rosemary) Lyle of Peoria, one granddaughter: Kristina (Ted) Engelsdorfer of Smithton,Il., one grandson: Erik (Carolyn) Hackett of Metamora. Six great grandchildren also survive. Raymond was a Lead Car Man for the Rock Island Railroad in Peoria for forty two years, retiring in 1967. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, Third degree Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council #427, and the International Brotherhood of Railway Carmen. Raymond’s father played professional baseball in the American League for the St. Louis Browns. Raymond played semi-pro baseball in the Peoria area. He also played in the Sunday Morning League when he was sixteen years old. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, 10 a.m. at his church, the Rev. Msgr. William A. Watson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass on Friday. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
