Obituary for Rachel I Dixon
PEORIA HEIGHTS – Rachel I. Dixon, 94, of Peoria Heights passed away at 8:07 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Rachel was born on Oct. 18, 1921, in Low Point, Ill., to the late William and Grace (Gifford) Hare. She married Robert L. Dixon on Apr. 17, 1945, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1991.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers, and one grandchild.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (William) Brohm of West Milwaukee, Wisc., and Linda Dixon of Hamden, Conn.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Katherine Lott of Washington, Ill. and Ruth Avey of Mt. Morris, Ill.
Rachel was the owner and operator of an A&W Root Beer Stand in Elmwood of 16 years, retiring in 1979.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 am Friday, January 29, 2016, at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel. Michael Meister will officiate. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the mausoleum chapel. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
