Obituary for Rachael R. Tuma

Rachael R. Tuma, 45, of Peoria, died December 19, 2018 in Peoria.

Born January 6, 1973, she was the daughter of Ken and Patricia Yager. She will be forever loved and remembered by her best friend and husband Andrew; children, Brennan, Shannon, Aine, and Teagan; her mother Patricia (Garrison) Yager of Princeville; 2 sisters, Denise Peery of Peoria and Laura (Henry) Hall of Rock Island, IL; three brothers, Ken Yager II of Carmel, IN, Jim Yager of Peoria, and Tony (Marcie) Bussman of Mahomet, IL. She was preceded in death by her father Ken Yager and sister Sara Yager.

She was a force to behold. She was fierce and passionate — a woman of conviction and deep love. A mother moved to share her commitment to family with many beyond her own. A people-person who was quick to welcome and engage others. She was never afraid to share her opinion or her affection.

Rachael most cherished being a mom. She was in her element holding a baby. Her love of children extended well beyond her own to those “bonus babies” in her community. She wouldn’t hesitate to receive a child with open arms and tender love. As a parent, she was equal parts no-nonsense and adoring. Rachael passes her compassionate yet free-thinking spirit to her children.

Rachael freely spoke her mind. People were drawn to how heartfelt and honest she was. A believer in healthy living, Rachael avidly researched topics like organic food and chemicals in the home. Rachael didn’t just want her own family to be healthy; she worked to encourage and educate others to live well, too. She was environmentally-conscious, always mindful of how her actions impacted the world around her and critical of those who threaten these values.

Rachael was a fighter who was brave in the face of adversity. Even up until the end, she fought to stay here with us, to be with her family and friends. Her beautiful spirit will always remain with those who loved her.

Rachael was an active parishioner of Holy Family Parish, where a visitation will take place on Thursday, December 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Burial will follow at Jubilee Churchyard Cemetery.

The Tuma family would like to extend a special thanks to all those who’ve lifted them up and offered their unwavering support during difficult times. In lieu of flowers, please consider the needs of the family.
