Obituary for Quentin D. Yerby

Peoria-Quentin Yerby, 78, or Peoria, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 9:51 p.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Born February 28, 1929 in Peoria to Talbert G. and Irene Cramer Yerby, he married Marian J. Ney on August 2, 1952 in Peoria. She survives along with four daughters: Linda Yerby of Peoria, Diane (Michael) Finan of Johnston, Iowa, Pam (Brian) DeVos of Moore, South Carolina, and Jenny Yerby of Bloomington, Illinois. Four grandchildren: Talbert Heinz, Tom Finan, and Sarah and Timothy DeVos, and one brother: Joel (Susan) Yerby of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Quent was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, it’s Men’s Club, 3rd Degree Spalding Council Knight of Columbus #427, Independent Sports Club, and Suburban Kiwanis. He was Secretary-Treasurer of the Old Timers Baseball Association, and served as Treasurer of the of the Peoria County Old Settlers Association. “Yerb” was well known in Peoria for his tireless work as a major fundraiser for youth sports through his active participation in many community organizations. He was a helping hand to countless area charities and non-profit groups, and volunteered his time to the Peoria Park District for many community events. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and working as an usher at the Peoria Civic Center. A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at his church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m. Further visitation will be a half hour prior to the mass on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Old Timers Baseball Association, or St. Philomena Church.
