Obituary for Phyllis Ann Fiddes

Phyllis Ann Fiddes, 84, of Peoria, IL, went to Heaven on Monday, March 14th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 21, 1937, in Hammond, IN, the daughter of Carl and Vivian (Gordon) Stagg. She married the love of her life, D. Bruce Fiddes, on August 10, 1957, in Wyoming, IL, where she spent her formative years. Phyllis and Bruce met while both attending Bradley University.

In addition to raising nine children, who, along with their spouses, their children and their grandchildren, were the absolute focus of her life until the end, Phyllis worked in daycare, taught grade school and enjoyed a lengthy career in local real estate, including serving as President of the Peoria Area Board of Realtors.

Phyllis was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and was a person of strong faith.

Phyllis was the type of person who wanted to be the person caring for others and not the person being cared for.
She is survived by her husband, eight sons; Brian (Sara) Fiddes, Gordy (Steph) Fiddes, Mark (Kelly) Fiddes: Pat (Cammi) Fiddes, Mike (Mary Knupp) Fiddes, Kevin (Kathy) Fiddes, Phil (Shel) Fiddes, Don (Julie) Fiddes; one daughter, Katie (Aaron) Smith; one brother, Gordon (Anne) Stagg, one sister, Karen (Joe) Winne, and two sisters-in-law, Barb Ferretti and Pat (Steve) Natta, along with twenty-four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, one sister, Mary Vetter, one brother-in-law, Maynard Vetter and one grandson, Christopher “Topher” Fiddes.

A visitation will be held at Wright & Salmon Mortuary on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 3:00 PM -7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at St. Philomena Catholic Church with Fr. David Richardson officiating. A private family burial of ashes will be at a later date at St. Patrick Cemetery in Kickapoo, IL.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to both OSF Palliative Care as well as Transitions Hospice, and in particular, Miranda.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Heller Center for Kids with Cancer or OSF St. Francis Children’s Hospital.

Friends and family may sign the online guestbook by logging onto www.wrightandsalmon.com.
