She was born on November 21, 1937, in Hammond, IN, the daughter of Carl and Vivian (Gordon) Stagg. She married the love of her life, D. Bruce Fiddes, on August 10, 1957, in Wyoming, IL, where she spent her formative years. Phyllis and Bruce met while both attending Bradley University.
In addition to raising nine children, who, along with their spouses, their children and their grandchildren, were the absolute focus of her life until the end, Phyllis worked in daycare, taught grade school and enjoyed a lengthy career in local real estate, including serving as President of the Peoria Area Board of Realtors.

Phyllis was the type of person who wanted to be the person caring for others and not the person being cared for.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, one sister, Mary Vetter, one brother-in-law, Maynard Vetter and one grandson, Christopher “Topher” Fiddes.
