Obituary for Peter J. Pasquel

Peoria- Peter John Pasquel, age 81, and a fabulous “bon vivant,” went from the loving hands of his wife and daughters with our Lord July 30, 2021 from his home.

Peter was born at St. Francis Hospital, Peoria, Illinois on May 9, 1940. He was adopted by Helene (Stenstrom) Pasquel and George O. Pasquel. He attended St. Thomas Parish primary school, Spalding Academy secondary school, and received his BA degree from Bradley University. He served in the Army National Guard of Illinois for six years and did his active duty on the streets of Chicago, Illinois during the tumultuous Sixties.

Peter married Rose Marie Ramos April 11, 1964. He is the father of Maria (Daniel) Whitson, Melanie (Rick) Picl, Kristine Pasquel and Amy Donovan. He is the grandfather of Rowena and Fiona Whitson; Hannah, Gabriella and Isabella Hernandez; Sophia (Samuel) Olson; and Mallory Picl. Peter is also survived by brother-in-law Phil (Diana) Ramos and their children Heidi, Jon, Alicia, Jason, Eric and Phillip.

Peter went to work at George O. Pasquel Co., a wholesale commercial food and equipment business with an emphasis on delicious coffee. He was a salesman extraordinaire and operated and participated there with the help of Dan and Maria Whitson for about sixty years. Working at this business was his joy, his love, his hobby. There was no customer – large or small – who didn’t get his attention.

Rose realized to give Peter an interesting break from work, she needed to put an ocean between him and the U.S. She would present adventurous abroad options to him, and he would be a sporting participant!

Peter was a devoted community activist and sat on several non-profit boards such as OSF Foundation, Center for the Prevention of Abuse, and he served on the Commissions for several sheriffs. He was honored to be inducted into the Central Illinois African American Hall of Fame.

Peter is loved, he will be missed, and he is a welcome addition to that “great party in the sky!”

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM at St Thomas Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church with an additional visitation being held one hour prior to mass. Msgr. Jason Gray will officiate and burial with full military honors will take place in Springdale Cemetery.

Memorials in Peter’s memory may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church or OSF Foundation.
