Obituary for Peter Hanssen
The Lord called one of His finest warriors home on March 7th. Peter Hanssen, 84, of Peoria, passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
He crashed on his road bike while enjoying a beautiful Saturday ride with the love of his life on the road leading back to the home where they have lived for 45 years.
He was born as one of three brothers in Windhoek, Namibia in 1937. He, his wife Wanda and his 2 boys, Dale and Verne immigrated to Peoria in 1977. He and Wanda owned Hanssen’s Le Bakery for 22 years. He lived life as few others do, full tilt, making the most of every day.
His life in Southern Africa is one stories are told about. But the example he set after moving his family to the United States, creating opportunities for his boys, and carving a new life for his family is what created a legacy. Of all Pete’s accomplishments, the one that stands out the most and is the longest lasting is his love for Jesus and the impact he made on others through that love. He was a Father to his sons but also a Father to so many others.
Wanda, his wife, Dale and Verne, his sons, his daughter in laws, Tracy and Hally, and his grandsons Hank, Gabe, Wyatt, Colt, and Bear will continue to build upon the great foundation he laid for us.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Northwoods Community Church, on Allen Road from 5-8PM. A Memorial service will also be held at Northwoods Community Church on Tuesday, March 22nd at 5PM, with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cadre Missionaries or Northwoods Community Church.
Friends and family may sign he online guestbook at www.wrightandsalmon.com
