Obituary for Paul L. Gilles
Paul L. “Jake” Gilles, 100, of Brimfield/Kickapoo passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Elmwood.
He was born on May 7, 1922, in Kickapoo, son of Edward I. and Lucy M. Brutcher Gilles. Paul married Mildred “Mickie” Oppe on April 2, 1945, in Kickapoo. They celebrated 77 years of marriage and Paul’s 100th birthday this year.
Surviving are his wife Mildred, five children: Patsy (Peter) Cahill , Mary Kay (Dale) DeVries, Edward (Janet) Gilles, Steven (Candy) Gilles and Paul (Susan) Gilles Jr. ; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and all his sisters and brothers.
Paul retired from farming and Caterpillar. Paul was a proud member of Local Union 974. He served as a board member of Brimfield Schools and member of Brimfield St Joseph Catholic Church.
Paul loved to fish and hunt.
Paul’s family would like to thank his nurse Carrie and all the caregivers at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Elmwood for their kindness and support.
Paul’s visitation and funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brimfield.
Visitation at 9:00 a.m. immediately followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be at the Brimfield Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brimfield, Yates City, and Elmwood Ambulance Service (BYE) OR Brimfield St Joseph kids CCD.
