Obituary for Paul E. Berres, Sr.
Paul E Berres, Sr., age 84, of Peoria, passed away at 12:00 PM on November 13, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
He was born in Baraboo, WI. July 14, 1937 to Lawrence and Charlotte(Heimbach) Berres. He was preceded in death by Both parents, His wife of 60 years, Kay and His sister Pat.
He is survived by three sons: Paul Jr (Maggie), Peter (Jody), Patrick (Tricia) of Peoria; seven grandchildren: Ruth (Paul) Armenakis, Jack Berres, Clare (Peter) Cunningham, Lucy Berres, Max Berres, Kayla Berres, and Emily Berres; and two great granddaughters: Louisa Cunningham and Violet Armenakis. His sister Betty Frost survives in Washington, IL. and his friend and partner Mary Steenrod survives in Peoria.
Paul served in the US Navy after graduating high school in Nauvoo, IL. He retired after 36 years from Caterpillar in 1998. The Berres boys were raised near St. Philomena Parish where Paul was a member of the Mens club for many years. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family. His family came first and foremost in his life.
An avid boater for most of his life, he was a member of the Peoria Boat Club. One of his favorite years was spent completing “The Great Circle Waterway” trip with Kay in their 34 ft SeaRay. After boating he and Kay had a motorhome they travelled in and spent winters in Florida. They acquired a condo, sold the motorhome, and spent winters in Cape Coral, Fl. Paul and Kay had many great friends in Peoria and Florida. His last few years were spent in the company of Mary Steenrod. They were inseparable. Paul felt blessed to have found Mary.
Visitation will be held on Thursday November 18, 2021, between the hours of 4:00PM to 6:00 PM at Wright and Salmon Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday November 19, 2021, at 11AM at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic church with an additional visitation 30 minutes prior. Father Stephen Willard will officiate and burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
