Obituary for Paul A. Stenger Sr.

KICKAPOO – Paul A. Stenger Sr., 94, of Kickapoo passed away at 3:25 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Liberty Village of Peoria. Paul was born on Mar. 18, 1920, in Rosefield Township to Andrew F. and Frances (Loescher) Stenger. He married Frances M. Whelan on Dec. 30, 1943, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 1976. He later married Eloise Elizabeth “Betty” Bennett on Apr. 25, 1980, in Peoria. She too preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Irene Carroll; two brothers, Eugene Stenger and Sylvester Stenger; one grandchild, Joseph Stenger; and three brothers-in-law, Frank Kelch, Robert Whelan, and Robert Carroll. He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie (Craig) Tiezzi of Brimfield; two sons, Paul A. Jr. (Catherine) Stenger of Peoria and Martial (Karen) Stenger of Brimfield; one sister, Anna Mae Kelch of Kickapoo; one brother-in-law, Donald (Mary) Whelan of Chillicothe; one sister-in-law, Mary Whelan of Washington, Ill.; stepchildren, Robert (Judy) Bennett of Carolina, R.I., David (Brenda) Bennett of Kerney, Mo., Joseph (Debbie) Bennett of Lathrup, Mo., Gary (Wendy) Bennett of Knoxville, Tenn., Judy (Tim) Sponsler of Morton, Nancy (Wayne) Lombeck of Alpharetta, Ga., Becky Cummins of Sylvania, Ohio, and Mary (Jim) Schraeder of Franklin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jackie (Doug Sutton) Tiezzi, Craig M. (Naomi Harphom) Tiezzi, Angie (Morgan) McGowan, Paul M. (Lisa) Stenger, Caitlin (Brad) Kirchgessner; a step-grandchild, Matt (Samantha Skelton) Stenger; five great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Paul worked as a farmer, retiring from his sesquicentennial farm. He then worked at Hiram Walker for 12 years, retiring in 1981. He was a founding member of the Kickapoo Sportsmen’s Club. He was also a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau and St. Mary Catholic Church in Kickapoo. Paul was an avid hunter and hogger of fish. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kickapoo. Fr. Joseph Dondanville will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at St. Mary Parrish Hall, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Kickapoo. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Kickapoo. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to www.wrightandsalmon.com.
