Obituary for Patrick Minster

PEORIA – Patrick Quinn Minster, 78, of Peoria, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Pat was born on August 26, 1934, in Milwaukee, WI, to Earl and Kathleen (Rasmusson) Minster. He married Patricia Herzog in 1962. He later married Mary V. Kennedy on November 23, 1984. Surviving are his wife, Mary of Peoria; two daughters, Victoria Horning of Puyallup, WA, and Kelly (Kenneth) Kerr of Peoria; two stepdaughters, Jennifer (Lew) Odum of Peoria and Molly Murphy of Jefferson City, MO. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Joseph Horning of Anchorage, AK, Joshua Kerr and Bailey Backus both of Peoria, and Elizabeth Murphy of Jefferson City, MO; his sister, Kathleen (George) Groskopf; and niece, Gina (Mark) Groskopf-Nivens, and two great-nephews all of Jefferson, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, and one nephew. Pat was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he worked in retail in Milwaukee and Chicago before being recruited to Peoria by Bergners. He later spent the majority of his career at Floorkrafters, retiring in 1992. Pat never met a stranger. He had a great love of life and an equal love for all of the dear friends he made and cherished over the years. He was a proud graduate of McKinley Grade School and Wauwatosa High School in Wauwatosa, WI, having remained close friends with many of his classmates to this day. He kept in touch with his “downtown” buddies from his years in retail and thoroughly enjoyed the strong bonds of friendship made at Corn Stock Theatre, where he had been active for 35 years. He was deeply dedicated to his fellow members of AA, selflessly forsaking his anonymity to further anyone’s effort to secure their sobriety or deal with mental health issues. This loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend will always be held dear in the hearts of those who have had the joy of knowing him. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1010 S. Louisa St., Peoria. Father Terry Cassidy will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 also at the church with a vigil service at 5 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Corn Stock Theatre Leonard Costa Memorial Scholarship Fund, South Side Mission, P.A.W.S., or a charity of the donor’s choice. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
