Obituaries
Peoria- Patricia O’Brien, age 93, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 4:20 Pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Buehler home with her family by her side.
Born December 10, 1929 in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Nello and Elda (Skahill) O’Connell. On September 30, 1950 she married Charles “Chuck” W. O’Brien in Peoria and together they cherished 67 years until his passing on October 30, 2017. Pat attended Marycrest College in Davenport, IA before returning to Peoria where she was employed by Block and Kuhl and Hiram Walker. After raising her eight children she dedicated her time volunteering at OSF ST. Francis and St. Philomena Catholic Church. Above all, Pat will always be remembered for her devotion to her faith, love for her family and unwavering commitment to the St. Louis Cardinals. She was ever present at sporting events for her children and grandchildren, often the loudest fan in the stands. Her energy and presence were felt by many up until the day she died.
Survivors include her 7 children: Mary (Bill) Stubstad, Susie (CJ) Jimenez, Dick (Jane) O’Brien, Mike (Laurie) O’Brien; daughter-in-law Kate O’Brien, Steve (Katie) O’Brien, Jim (Tina) O’Brien, Matt (Jill) O’Brien, 27 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chuck, one son Tim O’Brien and great-grandson Colin Stubstad.
Visitation will be held at St. Philomena Catholic Church on Sunday, April 23, 2023 between the hours of 2:30 PM and 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philomena Catholic Church on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 10:30 AM with an additional visitation being held one hour prior to mass. Father David Richardson will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in West Peoria.
The family would like to thank Father David Richardson as well as Dr. Tom Kouri and the staff at Buehler Home for their many years of kindness, care, and support.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials in Pat’s memory may be made to St. Philomena Catholic Church or Smile Train.
