Obituary for Patricia Mae Cunningham

PEORIA – Patricia Mae Cunningham, 88, of Peoria passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at Buehler Home. Patricia was born on Sept. 23, 1926, in Janesville, Wisc., to Joseph A. and Helen E. (Bennett) Jenkins. She married William E. Cunningham on June 25, 1949, in Janesville. He survives She is also survived by three daughters, Lynn Ward of Mundelein, Ill., Julie Anderson of Wheaton, Ill., and Jill (Bill) Hatfield of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Amy (Joshua) Trimble, Anne (Erik) Lakes, Katie (Mike) Lenz, Patrick Anderson, Bennett Hatfield, Kathleen Hatfield; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; godson, John Wetzel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister, Katherine Onsgard; and son-in-law, John V. Ward. Patricia graduated from Janesville High School and Mercy School of Nursing. After moving to Peoria in 1962, she returned to nursing where she worked for over 20 years at OSF St. Francis Medical Center and was a hospice volunteer. After her retirement, she volunteered with St. Francis Saints. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and Meals on Wheels. Patricia and William were founding members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She also was a member of the St. Vincent Ladies’ Guild and Bowling League. Patricia was a member of the Emblem Club and several golf leagues. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Msgr. Gerald Ward and Father Dustin Schultz will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Buehler Home.
