Obituary for Patricia Charlton

Patricia A. (Schmitt) Charlton, 73 years old, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021, after a long struggle with debilitating illnesses.
She was preceded in death by her parents of Kickapoo, IL, Ernie and Betty (Binegar) Schmitt. Known by her family and friends as Trish, she was married to and is survived by her husband, Dion L. Charlton. They spent the entirety of their married life (42 years and 11 months) living in Chillicothe, IL.
Though without children of their own, Trish was the beloved Aunt to many of their nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. The sons and daughters of her brothers Jim Schmitt of Kickapoo, Tom Schmitt of Chillicothe, and sisters, Marilyn Diviney of Washington and Mary Jo Wilcox of Canton were the joy of her heart. Her grand-nephews and nieces, Dakota Hall, Lacy Begner and Logan Begner of Chillicothe, is what kept Trish young and going in her final years.
Trish worked for Proctor Hospital of Peoria as a nurse’s aide, then unit secretary, and finally as a surgery scheduler for many years. She had many memorable moments from her time at the hospitals before her illnesses disabled her from physically continuing employment.
Per Trish’s wishes, prior to death, there will be no visitation or services due to deciding on cremation and the unfortunate restrictions due to the pandemic. However, Trish did make the point to have that any money spent on flowers or cards, be put to good use through donations to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, who were so instrumental in saving her god-daughter, Susan Mettelle.
