Obituary for Ora "Betty" Lynch

Ora Elizabeth “Betty” Lynch, age 100, long- time Peoria resident, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at her home in Scottsdale, AZ.

Born October 5,1921 to John Walter and Iva Mae (Tucker) Yeadicke in Plankington, SD, Betty was the first of five children. At age 13, her family returned to the Midwest, settling in East Peoria.  She graduated from East Peoria High in 1939, having spent many of her high school years doing various odd jobs in Peoria.

In 1942 Betty completed her teaching certificate at ISU(Normal) and the same year married Donald Lynch, her former classmate and neighbor.  Betty continued her degree work, graduating in1975. After over six decades of raising family, shared hobbies and retirement memories her soulmate passed away in 2009.

Also preceding Betty in death were her son Robert, infant brother Clifford, brother Francis Eugene(Bud) and sister Lauraine (Laurie) Love.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia (Sherry) Cook-Blanchard of AZ, sister Mildred (George) Lamprecht of Ewing,IL , four grandchildren, Donald (Shawna) Cook and Lisa (Gary) Grant -both of AZ; Jennifer Lynch Koenig and Andrew (Dani) Lynch. - both of WI.; 16 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Betty's bonus family included a large, close group of nieces and nephews and she enjoyed an active part in their lives as they grew up.

In 1960 Betty turned to teaching, starting with a class of 36 third graders at Pleasant Valley School with husband Don, as her faithful paper-grading assistant.  Unhappy that the school had no library, Betty started on a mission to create one.  Donating many weekends and summers, and with the help of parents and students, her dream evolved into a professional library of 16,000 books!  Today, a plaque dedicating this library to Betty is at the entrance.

Betty reluctantly retired in 1990 to follow Don, fishing in both Wisconsin and Florida.  Though she enjoyed fishing and rockhounding, her life-long passion was gardening. With beautiful yards at each home they owned, her crowning project was her last Illinois residence, London House apartments.  Residents there were her family and enjoyed the lovely flowers.  Even after her final move last year, she kept in touch and spoke of them everyday.

Special thanks to her niece Kris Mouchon, who frequently came to Betty's aid as her needs increased in Illinois, and to her friend and "adopted" daughter Barb Breuhaus for remaining her "girls nite out " dining partner.

Final arrangements are by Wright and Salmon Mortuary.  Services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11 AM, proceeded by open visitation at 10AM.  Officiating, will be Msgr. Jason Gray with graveside services to follow at Parkview Cemetery.

A reception luncheon will be at St Thomas the Apostle Church at 904 E Lake St., Peoria Heights. The family appreciates the church members providing this time for sharing and fellowship.

All events of the day will be video recorded and a link will be provided for future viewing and remembrances.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Operation Smile Project.
