Obituary for Norrine Rice

PEORIA – Norrine Germaine Rice, 89, of Peoria passed away at 7:58 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Norrine was born October 10, 1924, in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Julius and Bernice (Webber) Streit. She married John F. Rice Sr. on January 26, 1946, in Aurora. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother. She is survived by one son, John F. (Patsy) Rice Jr. of Bloomington; three daughters, Camille (Douglass) Baker of Wheaton, Colleen (Steven) Caldwell of Peoria, and Michelle (Joseph) Quinn of Peoria; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Norrine’s life centered around caring for her family. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing the piano and clarinet, swimming in her pool, camping, and relaxing at the family cottage on the Illinois River. She attended the University of Illinois, where she pledged Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church for over 42 years, Timberlake Club, Catholic Women’s League, OSF St. Francis Auxillary and local Red Hats groups. Norrine was married to the love of her life, John, for 67 years and “always.” She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. “You are my Sunshine” will live in their hearts forever. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father John Verrier will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
