Obituary for Norma Bishop Kerker
Peoria- Norma J. Bishop- Kerker, 87, of Peoria passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Buehler Home.
Born August, 18, 1930 in Springfield, IL to Alfred and Lucy (Merritt) Nielson. She married Lyle Bishop on May 29, 1955 in Peoria. She later married Ken Kerker in 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Bishop on June 4, 1990 in Hawaii as well as her brother Wayne.
She is survived by her husband Ken Kerker; one son Gary (Cathy) Bishop of Johnson City, TN and their children Abigail Bishop of Denver and Adam Bishop of Maui, HI; one foster son Stephen (Kathy) Hier of Morton; stepchildren Jim (Joan) Kerker of St. Louis, Cindy (Jeff) Barnett of Bartonville, and Kevin (Lynn) Kerker of Peoria; brother Jake (Jan) Nielson of Utah; Sister-In-Law Betty Nielson of Texas; as well as 10 Grand Children and 10 Great-Grandchildren
Norma was a graduate of Manual High School and later worked at Peoria County and then for the Public Building Commissioner. She was a devout parishioner of St. Philomena Catholic Church. She belonged to the Daughters of Nile Club. She was also a member of the Catholic Women’s League. Norma enjoyed playing in various golf leagues throughout her life.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Fr. David Richardson will officiate. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Philomena Catholic Church or to Shriner’s Hospital.
