Obituary for Nellie M. Dunne

PEORIA HEIGHTS-Nellie M. Dunne, 93, of OSF Saint Clare Home in Peoria Heights, passed away there at 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009. She was born on September 4, 1915, in Summum, IL to Willard C. and Mabel Carter Smith. She married James L. Dunne on April 10, 1937 in Peoria. He passed away on June 5, 1954 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Smith; two sisters, Lela Larson and Lena Duff; three grandsons, Dr. Patrick Whalen, Rick Clutters and Steven Cassulo and one granddaughter, Julie Pabon. Nellie is survived by three daughters, Judy (Don) Cassulo, Sandra (Joe) Whalen and Kathy (Mike) Pabon all of Peoria; twelve grandchildren, Mike Cassulo, Dennis (Beth) Cassulo, Lynn (Dan) Nordstrom, Kevin (Amy) Cassulo, Kim Scooler, Christine Clutters, Megan (Paul) Louw, Jennifer (Chris) Elson, Katie Whalen, Missy Whalen, Jim Pabon and Kelly Pabon; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She worked for many years at Szold’s Department Store. Then she worked for District 150, first at Roosevelt Jr. High School and then at Manual High School, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria, the church’s Mary and Martha Society and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed her many trips with her friends. Nellie was loved by many people. She dedicated her life to raising her three daughters and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Holy Family Church with Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be two hours before the mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Msgr.
