Obituary for Nancy J Phillips

PEORIA - Nancy J. Phillips, 85, of Peoria passed away peacefully in the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 2015. She joins her late husband, R.J. “Jack” Phillips, and her oldest son, D. R. Phillips, in Heaven. Nancy was born in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Glen and Rose Millikan on November 28, 1929. She is survived by her brother, Richard (Dottie) Millikan; her son, Dr. Mark (Dr. Lisa) Phillips; daughter-in-law, Mary Phillips of Export, Pa.; and grandchildren, Krista, Callie, Kelly Rose, Ryan, and Brad. Nancy was a graduate of Peoria High School in 1948. She then earned her B.A. from Bradley University in 1952. At Bradley, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and homecoming queen in 1950. She was a traditional wife, mother, and homemaker, living in several different cities while supporting her husband’s early Caterpillar career. They settled in Peoria in the mid 1960’s. Nancy was a member of P.E.O. and the Junior League of Peoria. She was an active volunteer for the Methodist Hospital Gift Shop and Zeller Mental Health Center. After her children had left for college, she enjoyed working for many years at the Junction City Book Store. Nancy loved people, travel, and playing bridge; and she was always an avid sports fan. There will be no ceremony at this time, cremation, private burial and celebration of her life will follow in the future. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers or memorials, Nancy asks that everyone embrace their own parents, children, grandchildren, loved ones and friends. Donate anything you would want to them or your favorite charity.
