Obituary for Mildred Marie Janovetz

Mildred Marie (Volz) Janovetz, 97, a lifelong Peorian, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 1:00 PM. She was born on November 9, 1913, the only daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Schweinbold) Volz. Her parents and two brothers, Bernard and Harold preceded her in death. Millie attended St. Boniface School and graduated as Valedictorian of her class at the Academy of Our Lady in 1931 where she was awarded a full college scholarship but was unable to accept because of the Depression. She worked in the public sector until her marriage on October 7, 1937 to Eugene Henry Janovetz at St. Boniface Church. Millie and Gene had 5 children; Judy Davis Morgan (Theodore Welles) of Pepper Pike, Ohio, Jerry of Peoria, Jane Menk (Duane, deceased) of East Peoria and Harlingen, TX, Joan Janovetz of East Peoria, and Jim (Cindy) Janovetz of Peoria. Gene died on their 44th wedding anniversary in 1981. Millie is survived by her children and 10 grandchildren; Eric (Janine) Davis, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Jacob, Joseph (Katie), Jill and Jared Janovetz, Holly (Jeff) Ott, Jeremy (Sarah) Heer, and Jason (Alycia) Heer. She also has 7 great-grandchildren; Max and Michal Davis, Breanna Kellogg, Mary Elizabeth, Jay and Christopher Heer, and Louis Janovetz along with many nieces and nephews. Millie was a lifelong devoted Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart and St. Vincent de Paul parishes in Peoria. She belonged to numerous religious and community organizations. Along with being a devoted wife and mother, Millie had many talents including making quilts, needlepoint, embroidery, knit and crochet items. She was a wonderful cook and her recipes continue in a family cookbook. A funeral mass will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Friday, July 29, at 10 AM. Visitation will be at Wright & Salmon Mortuary on Thursday, July 28, from 5 to 8 PM. Further visitation will be one hour preceding the mass at the church. Cremation rites will follow the service. Interment of cremains will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
