Obituary for Mildred E. O'Brien

PEORIA-Mildred E. “Tillie” O’Brien, 93, of St. Augustine Manor in Peoria, passed away there at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009. She was born on January 24, 1916 in Wyoming, IL to Charles and Margaret Gavin Ryan. She married William J. O’Brien on June 14, 1947 in Peoria. He passed away on March 26, 1984 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by two sons, William J. O’Brien of Peoria and Timothy (Mary) O’Brien of Dunlap; one daughter, Patricia (Kenneth) Pihl of Normal; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a 1936 graduate of OSF St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Mildred was a World War II US Army Lieutenant for the 203rd General Hospital in the Army Nurse Corp. from 1943-1946 in England and France. She was the recipient of 3 Overseas Service Bars and EAME Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and World War II Victory Medal. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and its Mother’s Club, American Legion Post 2, Neighborhood House Organization, and Volunteers of America. She was a Charter member of the Women in the Military Service for America. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 at St. Bernard Church with Rev. Geoffrey Horton officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Manor Capitol Campaign Fund or St. Bernard Catholic Church. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
