Obituary for Mildred E. Kelly

PEORIA – Mildred E. Kelly, 92, of Peoria, passed away at 5:05 p.m., Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Apostolic Christian Restmor, Morton. Mildred was born in Grinnell, IA, on April 25, 1921, to James and Mary (Gallagher) Morrissey. She married Thomas D. Kelly in Peoria on July 14, 1943. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1999. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Msgr. James Morrissey, Fr. Larry Morrissey, Fr. Jerome Morrissey, Bernard Morrissey, and Terry Morrissey; and one step-sister, Phyllis Spitz. She is survived by her children, Dan Kelly of Peoria, Jim Kelly of Ballwin, MO, Mary (Del) Brooks of Peoria, Kathy Kelly of West Peoria, Teresa (Don) Beachler of Peoria, Noreen (Dan) Carrigan of Bloomington, and Larry (Cindy) Kelly of Merna, IL; one brother, Edward (Mary Margaret) Morrissey of Naperville. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mildred graduated from Academy of Our Lady in 1939. She was employed in the cafeteria at both Spalding Institute and Notre Dame High School from 1970 through 1991. She lived life to its fullest and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and her favorite pastime was shopping with her best friend, Rosemary, and anyone else who was brave enough to go along. Mildred will be dearly missed by her family and all of the lives she touched. Her children would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lee and all of the staff at Restmor for their care and the kindness they showed to ”Millie” and our family. May God bless all of you. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013, at St. Ann Catholic Church. Father Terry Cassidy will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with a wake service 4:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Restmor, 1500 Parkside Dr., Morton, IL 61550 or OSF Hospice in Peoria.
