Obituary for Michael Theodore Langfels

BRANDON, FL – Michael Theodore Langfels, 48, of Brandon, FL, formerly of Peoria, died in his sleep on July 19, 2013, at his home. Michael was born in Peoria on September 8, 1964, to Robert J. and Rose Marie (Schneider) Langfels. They survive. He is also survived by his brothers, Jeffrey (Nancy) of Chicago and James (Sandra) of Denison, TX; his sisters, Theresa (Bob) Baker of Cedar Rapids, IA and Noelle (Dominic) Pisano of Peoria; 11 cherished nephews and nieces, Molly, Grace, Kate, Trace, Courtney, and Jack Langfels, Stephen, Joshua, and Olivia Baker, and Michael and Anthony Natale; step-niece, Nikki Pisano; and brother-in-law, John Natale of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Zachary Robert Baker. Michael graduated from Spalding High School in 1983. He started his career as a casino dealer at the Par-a-dice Casino in East Peoria, and worked at casinos in Biloxi, Las Vegas, and Tampa. He was last employed by the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. He also worked in casinos on the Crystal Cruise Line ships, Symphony and Serenity. During those years, he traveled extensively around the world and made hundreds of friends. Michael lived through Hurricane Katrina and stayed on to assist friends and neighbors after the devastation. Michael was a source of delight to his family. A celebration of Michael’s life was held in Brandon, FL on July 22, and was attended by over 200 friends and co-workers who had been touched by his positive caring and love. Many stories were shared about his ability to listen, to help, and to look for the best in everyone. One friend posted on Facebook, “If you want to see wealth, read Mike’s Facebook page.” A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 10 at St. Ann Catholic Church. Father Terry Cassidy will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.
