Obituaries
Michael T. Rule, age 86, of Mapleton, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Mike was born on September 25, 1936 in Quebec, Canada, a son of Percy and Henriette (Denie) Rule. He married Elaine Speck on March 2, 1973 in Manito, IL and they celebrated 50 years of marriage together. She survives. Also surviving are brothers, R. Scott (Lynn) Rule of Birchwood, WI and Gordon (Patricia) Rule of Bowling Green, MO and sisters, Francis (Tim) Frost of Melbourne, FL and Lorraine Blaser of Romeoville, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Mike graduated from Woodruff High School and went on to receive two degrees from Bradley University. He was a long-time teacher at Limestone High School where he was Department Head of Science, an award winning yearbook advisor, and athletic trainer for the football team.
Mike excelled in a variety of hobbies. For instance, he was a skilled photographer, an accomplished pilot who also taught aviation ground school, was an exemplary wood worker and he also restored paintings from the historic Jumer’s Restaurant in Peoria, IL. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was involved in CURSILLO and TEC in the Peoria area. Mike also volunteered at St. Augustine Manor.
Memorial Service will be at 1:30 PM on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with an hour prior visitation. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
