Obituary for Michael T. Millett

Michael T. Millett, 88, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Lutheran Hillside Village. He was born to John C. Millett and Corinne L. (Zimmerman) Millett, on December 9, 1933, in Wilmette, Illinois. He was proceeded in death by his parents and older brothers John, Jr. and Donald Millett. He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Schwarz) Millett.

Mike attended Bradley University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He went on to work for Caterpillar where he retired as a Staff Engineer after 53 years with the company.

Mike loved crossword puzzles, nature and animals, giving generously locally and to many wildlife causes. He also had many pets, often strays, and said, “A home without an animal is not a real home.” He also was a generous supporter of many local charity organizations.

He spent his summers playing golf on local courses, trips with friends and in Oregon with his brothers. He felt golf was the greatest game ever invented and was an avid follower of the sport. He was a member of Mt. Hawley Country Club and the Country Club of Peoria.

Mike also loved to travel, especially abroad, which really kicked into high gear when he married Pam. They toured the world by air and sea, trying never to miss an oversea excursion hosted by WTVP. They also enjoyed many oversea cruising adventures with groups, as well as alone. Travel was his passion with Pam.

He was a generous friend and was known never to have spoken ill of anyone. Since childhood, Mike was always admonished for being late to school, meetings, and get-together’s with friends. Yet, he joked that after he died, he would be referred to as the ‘late’ Mike Millett.’ He will be forever missed.

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of his life will be from 4 – 6 PM on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Mt. Hawley Country Club. Private burial of ashes will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory by contributing to the Peoria Humane Society, TAPS, or a charity of your choice.
