Obituary for Michael D. Hermann, Sr.

GLASFORD - Michael D. Hermann, Sr., age 70, of Glasford passed away at 11:51 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family and friends. Born Aug. 2, 1944, in Peoria, he was a son to the late Arthur L. and Pauline A. Widmer-Hermann. He honorably served in the United States Army Reserves from 1964 until 1970. On Nov. 21, 1969, Michael married Mary C. Dwyer in Chillicothe. Michael worked for Caterpillar for 34 years until his retirement. He served as union steward for many years for Local #974. In 1969, Michael was elected delegate to the U.A.W. Community Action Legislation Conference in Washington D.C. He enjoyed deer hunting with his father and son, cutting firewood and gardening. His son, Michael, and him were best running buddies and best friends. He will be remembered for his love of following his granddaughter in all her sports activities, she was his “sweet heart.” Michael was dearly loved by his wife, family and friends, and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two children, Michael Hermann of Mapleton, Ill. and granddaughter, Abygail, and daughter, Maureen Hermann of Peoria, and grandson, Patrick; and three sisters, Gloria (Gary) Winston of Colorado Springs, Colo., Paula (Ernie “His favorite fishing buddy”) Clark of Mapleton, Ill., and Debra Hermann of Peoria; as well as, sister-in-law, Linda (Roger) Kilpatrick of Morton, Ill. his “medical bodyguard.” Michael was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arthur D. Hermann. Cremation rights have been accorded. A memorial visitation will take place Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, from 4:30 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at Wright and Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Paul Cook will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be made in Michael’s memory to an education fund for his granddaughter, Abygail, in care of Bartonville Community Bank.
