Obituary for Michael S. Garrison

Dunlap- Michael S. Garrison, age 53, of Dunlap passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at his residence.

Born January 30, 1968 in Peoria, a son to Charles and Donna (Harrell) Garrison. On May 4, 2002 he married Nicole Snyder at St. Thomas Catholic Church. He was a graduate of the Richwoods High School class of 1986. During his time at Richwoods he was a member of the winning 1984 High School Football State Championship Team and became a member of the Greater Peoria Football Hall of Fame. He went on to attend and graduate from Western Illinois University with a degree in marketing. Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council #427, 3rd Degree and the Peoria Officials Association. He was an IHSA football official for many years. Michael was a loving son, husband, father and brother and uncle. He loved poker, Mob History, playing golf and sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mike, also known to his friends as “Beef”, was well known and much loved throughout the Peoria Area. His grade school buddies lovingly referred to him as “The Mayor of Peoria,” for his ability to go anywhere at any time and have a heartfelt conversation with whomever he ran into. Mike never knew a stranger and was friends with anyone he met.

Survivors include his wife Nicole Snyder-Garrison of Dunlap; one son Nicholas Garrison of Dunlap; six brothers: David (Jan), Jack (Dori), Bob (Mary), Chris (Mary), Matt (Jo) and Chuck (Kathy); 20 nieces and nephews; in-laws Jim (Judy) Snyder and brother-in-law Chris (Tonya) Snyder; also surviving is his dog Donut.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 between the hours of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM in Hettinger Hall at St. Jude Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 1:00 PM at St. Jude Catholic Church. An additional visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to mass. Father Patrick Henehan will officiate and cremation rights will be accorded following mass. Mask will be required and COVID-19 social distancing measures will be implemented.

Memorials in Michael’s memory may be made the Educational Fund for his son Nicholas, C/O Cefcu Bank.
