Obituary for Meredith J. Knopf

PEORIA-Meredith J. Knopf, 61, of Peoria, passed away at 12:25 a.m. on September 26, 2010, quietly at home surrounded by her loving family. Meredith, the daughter of Howard and Roberta Bauer Fahler was born on February 23, 1949 in Mendota, IL. She is survived by her parents of Mendota, her nephews, Dana Vicich and Bryce Vicich, her brother-in-law, Mike Vicich all of Ottawa, her loving companion, Bob Gordon and her Labrador, Sunny. She was preceded in death by her loving sister, Pat Vicich. Meredith graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Special Education. She taught Special Education, she co-managed Running Central and she managed The Best of Post and Pillar. She was an active member of Illinois Valley Striders. Meredith loved to cycle and run, cycling hundreds of miles over local country roads. There wasn’t a road she hadn’t been on. A highlight of her cycling was riding across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. She was a daily runner and was recognized in many of the neighborhoods in which she ran. She was a strong competitor in many 5K races and exercised every morning at the Peoria Riverplex. She enjoyed jazz, attending many jazz concerts in the Midwest. Before the concerts, Meredith and Bob would cycle through local parks and trails. She was adventurous, with no fear of a ride in a hot air balloon, glider or ultra-lite. One of the other joys of her life was vacationing on the beaches of the Caribbean. Meredith had many Labrador retrievers in her life, Sunny being her last and dearest. Meredith was a very loving and caring daughter, sister, aunt, life companion, and friend to every person whose life she touched. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2010, at Restland Cemetery in Mendota, IL with Rev. Mike Morrell officiating. Meredith and her family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or Methodist Hospice in her name. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at the Rhythm Kitchen, 305 SW Water Street, from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010. All her friends and family are invited to celebrate Meredith’s Life.
