Peoria-Maurine James Connor, age 85, passed away at 7:40 PM on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Christian Buehler Home surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 05, 1931 in Fulton, New York, she was a daughter to Robert Joseph and Fontella Maurine (Sharp) James. Maurine moved to Danville, Illinois in 1944 and she graduated from Danville High School with the class of 1948. Maurine continued her education graduating from Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1951. On September 16, 1950 she married Harold Gerrard Connor in Paris, Illinois.
While her husband was serving in Korea, part of Maurine’s nursing training was done in Cook County Hospital. Upon his discharge in 1952 they started their family in Danville and raised 8 children. Maurine was an active parishioner at both St. Patrick’s Parish and St. Philomena Parish. She was also active in Cub Scouting and Girl Scouts as well as past president of the American Cancer Society Golf League.
During her time in Danville she worked to establish a kindergarten at St. Patrick School and her eldest daughter Judy attended the first class. She and her husband were both active with the Christian Family Movement.
In 1971 Maurine and her family moved to Peoria where she worked for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for 11 years after her children were grown. She continued to volunteer at OSF St. Francis Medical Center for 22 years following her retirement. Maurine and her husband moved to Buehler Home in the Fall on 2013.
Maurine was deeply loved and will be missed by her family as well as friends both in Danville and Peoria.
Survivors include her husband Harold; 8 children: Judith (Martin) Green, Thomas (Kimberly) Connor, Kevin (Deborah) Connor, Joseph (Janet) Connor, David (Kimberlee) Connor, Daniel (Maribeth) Connor, Nancy (Patrick Nichting) McCabe, and James Connor; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, as well as, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church with visitation being held one hour prior to mass. Father David Richardson will officiate and burial will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Danville, Illinois.
Memorials in Maurine’s memory may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
