Hanna City- Matthew W. Bare, age 38, of Hanna City passed away at 6:06 PM on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at his residence.
Matthew was born on April 26, 1983 in Peoria IL, a son of W. Wayne and Linda Bare. Originally from Hanna City, Matthew was a traveler at heart, both nationally and worldwide. He was an Army and National Guard Veteran, serving in Korea and Iraq with the 101st Airborne, where he earned two Army Commendation Medals. Following his service, he developed a passion for mining for semiprecious gemstones. He enjoyed fine foods, foreign cultures, antiques and creating customized collector pieces.Â
Matthew never met a stranger or a dog that didn't love him. He was the purest example of the phrase "he would give you the shirt off his back." His love for his family and friends (as well as his deep loud laugh) will be truly missed.Â
Matthew is survived by his mother Linda (Grafelman) Bare (Hanna City, IL), father W. Wayne (Vicki) Bare (Van, TX), brother Rodney (Karen) Bare (Buffalo Grove, IL), sister Shanon (Jason) Tindall (Greenwood, SC), and twin sister Amanda (Mike) Gawelek (Dunlap, IL). Uncle Larry and Auntie Judy Layman (Hanna City, IL), uncle Gary Grafelman (Eden, IL) and uncle J.W. Brown (Peoria, IL).  He has five beloved nephews and three dear nieces.Â
He was preceded in death by most recently Ray (Papa) Grafelman who was Matthew's dearest mentor, Edna (Me Maw) Brown and uncle Ralph Brown.Â
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service with Military Honors at 11:00 AM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Tim Beddingfield will officiate and cremation rights will follow funeral services.
Memorials in Matthew’s memory may be made to SAMS Midway Animal Shelter in Hanna City, IL.
