Obituary for Mary Yakoff Tucek

PEORIA HEIGHTS-Mary Yakoff Tucek, 88, of OSF Saint Clare Home in Peoria Heights and formerly of Peoria, died at 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on June 7, 1921, in Peoria to George J. and Mary Csaki Yakoff. She married Richard Charles Tucek on May 5, 1945, at St. Boniface Church in Peoria. He died on December 12, 1994, in Peoria. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, George Yakoff, Jr., Peter Yakoff and Frank Yakoff; two infant grandsons, Joseph Edward Hitz and David Andrew Hitz. She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Michael) Hitz of Kickapoo and Karen Susan (Gary) Pearson of Peoria; four grandchildren, Michael Hitz, Jr. of Champaign, Gary Edward (Tina Dean) Pearson of Peoria, Richard Thomas (Jennifer O’Shea) Hitz of Bloomington and Tracie Marie Hitz of Chicago; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Cameron Hitz and Jeremy Michael Hitz both of Bloomington, Avery Renae Pearson and Evan Joseph Pearson both of Peoria; four sisters, Kay Gryz of Chicago, Margaret Ohl, Beth Bisiaux, Rosemary Farris; and sisters-in-law, Frances Yakoff and Katie (Jim) Burrows all of Peoria; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria. Mary’s faith was very important to her, as was shown in her daily attendance at Mass. She enjoyed bowling for more than 60 years. She was active in two weekly leagues until age 85, when a knee injury resulted in her giving up the sport she most enjoyed. Her months at OSF Saint Clare were made enjoyable by the loving staff, especially Deacon Steve Racki and Herb, the activities director, who introduced her to bingo. A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Holy Family Church with Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be from 9-9:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to www.wrightandsalmon.com
